Material Flow Analysis

At present, little is known about the quantities and recovery outcomes of office furniture within Australia. A Material Flow Analysis was conducted to quantify the materials in circulation and the current recovery outcomes of the in scope materials. This analysis details the current flows of materials (by tonnage) throughout the product lifecycle, from manufacturing and importation through to end of life.

Life Cycle Assessment

Life Cycle Assessment is the leading methodology for assessing the whole of life impacts of goods and services. A Life Cycle Assessment was conducted on all ten product categories using proxy products to determine the current environmental impact and to measure the potential environmental benefits to be achieved through implementation of the program.

Consumer Preference and Capacity Survey Results

A number of surveys have been circulated to both manufacturers/consumers and potential product stewardship organisations in order to assess the demand for the program and the current capacity of industry organisations to service the program respectively. These results detail both the willingness of industry to pay for the program, as well as where existing capability exists to improve the recovery outcomes across Australia.
